BRADFORD Pa, –The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s students, faculty, and staff are working hard to raise awareness and understanding of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender members in the community.

Safe Zone LGBT Training is a two-hour interactive program at which people can learn about issues in the LGBT community. Individuals will learn about homophobia, hate and oppression based on sexual orientation, and more. After completing the training, participants may display the Safe Zone symbol to show that they are an active and visible ally, and are supportive, understanding, and empathetic of members of the LGBT community.

“Safe Zone training provides awareness. It encourages people to react in a positive, respectful and empathetic way,” said Raymond Geary, executive director of the Division of Continuing Education and Regional Development
Instructors are Dr. Ron Binder, associate dean of student affairs; Lori Mazza, director of athletics and recreational sports; and Dr. Helma de Vries-Jordan, assistant professor of political science.
