BRADFORD Pa, –The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s students, faculty, and staff are working hard to raise awareness and understanding of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender members in the community.

On Thursday, Feb. 13, all members of Pitt-Bradford and the Bradford community are welcome to attend Safe Zone LGBT Training that will be held in the Mukaiyama University Room of the Frame-Westerberg Commons. There is no charge for the event.

Safe Zone LGBT Training is a two-hour interactive program at which people can learn about issues in the LGBT community. Individuals will learn about homophobia, hate and oppression based on sexual orientation, and more. After completing the training, participants may display the Safe Zone symbol to show that they are an active and visible ally, and are supportive, understanding, and empathetic of members of the LGBT community.

“Safe Zone training provides awareness. It encourages people to react in a positive, respectful and empathetic way,” said Raymond Geary, executive director of the Division of Continuing Education and Regional Development
