PennDOT Posts Weight Restrictions on Route 146 Bridge in McKean County

Bradford, PA – Effective Feb. 6, PennDOT has posted weight limits on a Route 146 bridge in McKean County. The bridge spans Potato Creek in Norwich Township, about one mile south of the village of Colegrove. The bridge is now posted for 35 tons for single vehicles and 40 tons for combination vehicles. The Colegrove Bridge was built in 1931, is 61 feet long, and carries an average of over 200 vehicles daily.

In August of 2013, PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch authorized the transportation department to add or increase weight restrictions to about 1,000 structurally deficient bridges statewide. Reducing the weight traveling on these bridges will slow their deterioration and preserve safety until repairs or replacement can occur.

To view the bridges with new or lowered weight restrictions or to learn more about bridge weight restrictions and PennDOT’s bridge-inspection program, visit the PennDOT homepage at and click on “Bridge Information.”
