Hurry, Deadline To File Property Tax/Rent Rebate is December 31
The deadline to apply for Pennsylvania’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program is December 31, 2013, according to Senator Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson).
The program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians 65 years or older, widows and widowers 50 years or older, and those with disabilities 18 years or older. The income limit is $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters, excluding half of Social Security income. The maximum standard rebate is $650, but supplemental rebates for qualifying homeowners can boost rebates to $975.
“This is a great program that can help make housing more affordable for those on a limited income,” Scarnati said. “With the cost of housing increasing, it’s important for those who qualify to submit their applications.”
Scarnati said that more than 600,000 senior citizens and residents with disabilities are expected to benefit from the program, which is funded by the Pennsylvania Lottery and revenue from slots gaming.
Applicants may obtain Property Tax/Rent Rebate claim forms (PA-1000) and related information online at www.revenue.state.pa.us or by contacting one of his District Offices.
“It is important for seniors to know that it costs nothing to apply for the rebate,” Scarnati said. “Local Area Agencies on Aging and other groups serving seniors are available to prepare these forms at no cost. In addition, my offices are available to help anyone needing assistance in applying for this important program.”
Applications must be postmarked by Tuesday, December 31. Claimants who already applied for Property Tax/Rent Rebates may check the status of claims online at www.revenue.state.pa.us or by calling, toll-free, 1-888-PATAXES.
