Dorothy M. Smith, 98, of 857 8th. Street, West Pittsburgh, and formerly of 608 Park Avenue, Kane, passed away Sunday (November 24, 2013) at her residence.
Born April 26, 1915, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Nellie Niver Burdick. On May 19, 1931, in Mayville, NY, she married George Smith who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Smith had lived in the New Castle area for several years. Prior to that, she lived in Kane and had been employed by Stackpole for many years.
She is survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death, besides her husband and parents, were three sons, Larry Smith, Donald Smith and Richard Smith and a daughter Loretta Chieze.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. where funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Wednesday with the Rev. Chad Troup, pastor of the First Church of God, officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation (which is designated for the fight against breast cancer) in care of the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc., 151 Greeves St., Kane, PA 16735.
