James H. Compton, 67, of 6753 Rte. 219, Lewis Run, passed away Sunday (September 22, 2013) at UPMC Hamot.
Born January 17, 1946, in Kane, he was a son of the late Victor and Viola Porter Compton.
Mr. Compton had worked for many years on the drilling rigs. He had been a member of the Lafayette VFD where he served as a fire policeman.
During the Vietnam War, he served two tours of duty in the Army.
Surviving are a daughter, Kelly Compton of Bradford; a son, Randy(Lynn) Compton of Lewis Run; his companion of twenty-three years, Debra Nicklas of Lewis Run; a stepson, Shawn Nicklas of Kane; two brothers, Roy (Mary Lou) Compton of Kane and Don (Cindy) Compton of Hazel Hurst; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Charlotte (Emil) Strich of Ridgway.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Compton and John V. Compton.
Family and friends may attend a memorial service at 1:00 pm Friday at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. in Mt. Jewett, with the Rev. Randall Sherlin officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the family in care of Cummings Funeral Home, Inc.
